Art
Art class is open to students in grades 7-12. Students in art learn the fundamentals of artistic principles and practice their knowledge in a variety of media. Art students have the opportunity to develop and express their creative energies in the yearlong course, which can be taken either on campus or independently from home. The high school Art 1 and Art 2 classes are A-g approved electives.
ASB Leadership
ASB Leadership class is open to students in grades 7-12. Students engage in project-based learning activities around leadership, business management, customer service, and community service. High School ASB is an A-g approved college preparatory elective, and gives students valuable experience in critical life skills that prepare students to become successful adults.
Dual Enrollment
Excelsior Ontario has a strong High School Partnership with Chaffey College which allows students in grades 9-12 to earn college credits while in high school. We offer several HSP classes each semester completely free of charge, and students also have access to the wider Chaffey College course catalog through traditional dual enrollment for low or no fees. Dual enrollment is one of our most popular programs, and we encourage all high school students take advantage of the opportunity to earn triple credits and get a head start on post-secondary education and career plans as they prepare to become successful adults.
Intramural Athletics
In partnership with other local Excelsior campuses, students are given the opportunity to participate in several short athletic seasons throughout the school year. The Excelsior Intramural League is co-ed and open to all students in grades 7-12. The league focuses on skill-building, sportsmanship, and most of all... Fun! Some examples of the sports played in rotation: Basketball, Volleyball, Softball, and Soccer. Students who participate in intramural athletics are able to apply their participation towards their PE requirements.
Personal Life Plan
In partnership with their counselor, family, and teachers, each student will develop a Personal Life Plan (PLP) to guide their high school program and prepare for life after high school. As part of PLP development, students will engage in career interest surveys, attend college tours, investigate internship and dual enrollment opportunities, learn how to apply for college and employment, and explore how best to support their personal, educational and career priorities after they graduate from high school. Beginning with the class of 2025, all graduates will demonstrate satisfactory completion of a college or career preparation pathway that complements their post-secondary goals. The education team's commitment to the PLP demonstrates the Excelsior Advantage in preparing students to be successful adults.
Service Learning
Our flexible independent study model allows students and families to participate in their communities in meaningful ways. Students are encouraged to engage with their communities in service projects and activities, as these experiences are valuable to students, families and their communities. High school students can earn elective credits through our Service Learning elective, and we offer several opportunities each school year for students to earn service hours through school-sponsored activities.
Yearbook
Yearbook class is open to students in grades 7-12. Students work individually and cooperatively to publish and market a quality yearbook for the school community. Students learn and practice the marketable skills and attitudes associated with the fundamentals of digital photography, design, yearbook publication software, marketing and customer service.
